Why You Should Never Drive Over Your Septic System
A septic system will work properly and efficiently only if maintained properly. Proper septic system maintenance includes never driving over your septic system, unless special provisions have been made, such as extreme protection of sewer piping and tanks, as well as vehicle-rated septic tank covers.
Driving over a septic system's tank or piping can lead to costly damage to the system, as well as a surprise collapse. Driving over septic piping can break the line, allowing soil and roots to get in the piping and clog the entire system. A septic drainfield should never be driven on, as driving over a drainfield will compact the soil and prevent proper evaporation of moisture through the surface. Driving over elements of a septic system, including the septic tank, piping, and drainfield , may lead to total septic system failure.
